Holli Kenley – Betrayal Recovering Expert

Blindsided by a betrayal: four steps to tackle the pain.

Once again, as has happened numerous times over the past several weeks and months, another high profile and popular personality has been blindsided by a betrayal. Sandra Bullock is the latest recipient of a painful and public injury, one that cuts at her very core.  While the media, the fans, and the supporters cannot seem to agree upon what Ms. Bullock should or shouldn’t do, one thing remains certain, Sandra feels tremendous confusion, worthlessness, and powerlessness.  How does she pick up the pieces of her life?  Where does she go from here?  How does she or other victims of betrayal begin to tackle the pain?

Breaking Through Betrayal: And Recovering The Peace Within, www.LovingHealing.com , is a newly released book designed specifically for those who have been betrayed. Although the book contains strategies to utilize for comprehensive recovery, author Holli Kenley suggests the following four steps for beginning the healing process:

  1. Get focused on your needs.
  2. Give yourself time to heal and to make life changing decisions.
  3. Guard against long term blame.
  4. Grab hold of healthy support systems.

Whether the betrayal is a violation of trust in a relationship, fraud in a business deal, or misuse of power from an organization or institution, victims no longer need to hold their healing contingent upon the words or actions of their betrayer. Breaking Through Betrayal provides tools and strategies which empower individuals to make choices based on their own personal levels of healing.

After being stalked and secretly video-taped in her hotel rooms, ESPN reporter Erin Andews  became the victim of a betrayal – a painfully personal and private violation made public on the internet. On Oprah’s TV show September 11, 2009,  Erin Andews stated, “I’m excited to get back to work.  I feel like it’s really going to help me heal the wounds.”  Now, almost five months after the interview, Ms. Andrew’s stalker has been convicted and sentenced.  On Monday, March 22, 2010, Ms. Andrews appeared on ABC’s “Dancing WithThe Stars.” How has this courageous young woman been able to move forward from a position of strength and confidence?  How can other victims who have been blindsided by a betrayal tackle their pain and separate their lives from the actions of their betrayer?

Breaking Through Betrayal addresses these issues and others while providing a roadmap for recovering. Author  Holli Kenley, M.A, Marriage and Family Therapist, www.hollikenley.com , is a betrayal recovering expert who has counseled many clients in the areas of abuse, trauma, addiction, grief, and betrayal. According to Beth Hedva, Ph. D., author of award-winning Betrayal, Trust, and Forgiveness,  Holli’s book is “useful for anyone caught in self-blame, shame or repeated victimization…this empowering ‘in-control’ approach can help readers take charge, assess injury, gage healing and find excellent strategies to protect themselves from future trauma when relation to one’s betrayer.”
